Coupe d’Or

Introduction

Aberdeen College students have access to a lot of information when starting a course. The Computing and IT department wanted to produce an interactive handbook that will introduce Aberdeen to new HNC students. The handbook will be used in next year’s induction sessions, so the products had to have a level of professionalism, whilst still appealing to new students.

The class was allocated the topic headings between the groups so that each group produces one interactive PowerPoint product that covers that single topic.

Topics

  1. Accommodation in Aberdeen

  2. Travel to Aberdeen and within Aberdeen

  3. Support available to students

  4. About Aberdeen City

  5. Student Finance and Employment

  6. Entertainment, Sports and Societies

The class was split into 6 groups and each group was tasked to create an interactive PowerPoint product for the allocated section of the student handbook. The interactive PowerPoint product was to include a variety of media elements e.g. video, still images, sound, maps, animation. The College provided a PowerPoint template for use so that an organisational standard is maintained.

Staff nominated the 6 groups who are the ‘best in topic’, e.g. the best submission for “A. Accommodation in Aberdeen”. The members of the winning groups were awarded a certificate for their achievement.
