Introduction to Computing support

This full-time, year-long course is designed for those who already have some basic ICT knowledge and skills, and want to develop these into a successful career in Computing. It is, however, more "hands-on" and practical than the Introduction to Information Technology course.

As well as learning basic applications such as Word and Powerpoint, you will also explore the "insides" of computers!

You will learn all about the building, maintainance and testing of computer systems; installing and configuring both hardware and software; customer support skills; and working to industry-standard repair procedures. If you are successful, you will gain Level 2 Diploma in ICT Systems Support from City and Guilds, a vocational qualification recognised and sought-out by all major employers.

You will also gain SQA qualifications in the five nationally-prescribed "Core Skills" of Numeracy, IT, Problem Solving, Working with Others and Communications, by completing a variety of exciting projects.

This course is appropriate for both school-leavers and adult returners. Most of our successful Level 2 students return to do the Advanced Diploma at Level 3, then continue onto HNC Computing and HND Technical Support. Other graduates leave after Level 2 for jobs within the IT industry as helpdesk support, repair technicians, website designers, all sorts of things!
