Practical Computing and Information Technology at Higher Level

The practical computing at higher course builds on the knowledge and skills acquired either on the introductory course – or from external learning and experience – and takes learners up to the level of the City and Guilds advanced diploma.

This practical-based course is intended to give learners hands-on experience in testing, maintaining and upgrading a range of ICT equipment. This experience will lead students towards further learning (such as HNC) or prepare them for an entry level computing support position.

During the course, students dismantle and assemble hardware, learn fault finding and troubleshooting techniques and learn about hardware and software maintenance and testing . Basic networking is also covered during the course including network hardware and software and simple network management.
